The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) estimates over 235,000 internally displaced people (IDPs) in Afghanistan as a result of man made conflict, systemic drought and famine. The people of Afghanistan have been caught in civil conflict for decades. Concerns about security have kept many children, particularly girls, from receiving any type of formal education. Poor communities have no access to basic healthcare and men, women and children are dying from easily treatable diseases. The UN estimates that more than 7.5 Afghans are in desperate need of outside aid.
