Bosnia
During the period of 1992 through 1995, Serbian nationalist troops led ethnic cleansing operations in many parts of Bosnia (now, Bosnia-Herzegovina), including the genocide in the city of Srebrenica, in which an estimated 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were systematically murdered. At the end of these three years, an estimated 200,000 Muslim civilians were killed, more than 20,000 went missing, and more than 2 million were displaced. The organized killing of Muslim men has left tens of thousands of families without husbands and fathers and has subsequently left many in poverty over a decade later.
Different NGOs have focused on supplying food and basic necessities in the aftermath of the conflict, but this aid has slowed down considerably, leaving the internally displaced people and refugees mired in severe poverty.
