Burkina Faso
One of the poorest countries in the world, Burkina Faso's high population density and limited natural resources result in poor economic prospects for the majority of its citizens. A high rate of emigration to surrounding countries for employment opportunities has had negative effects on the economy of both Burkina Faso and those countries. Most recently, unrest in Cote d'Ivoire and northern Ghana has hindered the ability of several hundred thousand Burkinabe farm workers to find seasonal employment in neighboring countries, contributing to the high unemployment rate.
