The various Muslim populations in China are amongst the poorest communities in the sprawling country. Ethnic Chinese and Turkic Muslim communities in both central and northwest China, in rural and urban settings, are in need of education and skill-training that will allow them to improve their social condition while fulfilling their spiritual needs.
There are an unknown number of refugees from Kashmir in China. There are also hundreds of thousands of refugees from neighboring Vietnam, North Korea and Burma who relay on foreign aid for basic necessities.
