GeorgiaGeorgia

Georgia has made substantial progress in gaining autonomy and boosting its internal economy through foreign imports since its independence from the former Soviet Union. Unresolved shared border issues, however, present a difficulty in terms of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs). There are currently between 220,000 – 240,000 IDPs from Abkhazia and South Ossetia in Georgia following conflict between Georgian and Russian forces in late summer of 2008. Instability in the region left high numbers of refugees and IDPs with little access to basic needs and supplies.
