The south of India is prone to flash floods and more severe flooding during monsoon seasons. Many poor communities along the coast have little or no flood disaster preparation and prevention and do not have the ability to rebuild after the destruction. Overcrowding in the cities exacerbate the already dire situation in India’s many slum cities. Access to food, healthcare and education is extremely limited within the slums. Disturbingly, Muslim communities in India have shorter life spans, worse health, lower literacy rates and lower paying jobs.
