There are an estimated 1 million Afghan refugees in eastern Iran who rely on international aid for basic services like food, shelter and education. After the Iran-Iraq War of 1980-88 and Gulf War of 1990-1, millions of people were displaced to camps in Iran. More than 1 million refugees from Iraq have fled to the borders of Iran since 2003. Refugees who live in shanty tent camps have no access to basic healthcare. Their children have been robbed of their right to attend school and receive and education.
