Conflict in the Casamance Region has contributed to thousands of IDPs in the area. Many children have been forced to forgo education in order to work to help support their families and children are dying from diseases that can easily be treated because of lack of basic healthcare. Many Muslim communities in Senegal have lived for generations without a mosque in which to worship.

The Muslim population of the southern Casamance Region of Senegal appealed for Zakat Foundation to construct a mosque in the Buchekun village.
