Over the last several decades, Syria has been a refuge haven for those fleeing conflicts in the region, but the country is overwhelmed. The majority of the Palestinian refugees fled into neighboring Syria during the 1948 Arab-Israeli conflict. In 1967, close to 170,000 people were forced to flee from the Golan Heights area and were displaced in Syria. Thousands of Iraqi refugees have been streaming into Syria since 2003. These various refugee communities have limited are supplied limited amounts of humanitarian aid.
