Hundreds of thousands of refugees from neighboring Laos and Cambodia also struggle to survive in Thailand. Droughts and the global food crisis have affected Thailand’s rice production and agricultural employment sector. Thailand is in need of skill-training opportunities for women and consistent education for children in order to protect them from being exploited. The Thai Muslim community remains one of the poorest, with limited access to healthcare, education and employment.
