Zakat Foundation of America Empowers Women at Newly Launched Handicraft Bazaar in Adiyaman, Türkiye

This vital humanitarian project, aimed at empowering women, celebrated the grand opening of the Eliyaman Women’s Cooperative, a new handicraft bazaar, on October 8, 2024, in Adıyaman, with Zakat Foundation of America’s Executive Director Khalil Demir in attendance. Adıyaman Province Governor, Dr. Osman Varol, was also in attendance and emphasized the significant hope this project brings to the women of Adıyaman, highlighting its role in rebuilding lives and revitalizing the local economy.

This initiative will provide employment opportunities for 150 women, many of whom are single mothers. It offers a platform to create and sell handicrafts, local food specialties, and unique dried products, all inspired by the rich cultural heritage of Adıyaman. Located within a temporary mobile housing area, it features 20 workshops, each designed to support various handicraft activities, along with a psychotherapy center, a childcare unit, and a prayer room. This comprehensive approach serves as a community for women to develop their skills and support one another.
