This August, Zakat Foundation of America Community Center Chicago's (Zakat Foundation of AmericaCCC) second year of Creative Arts' Summer Camps Ends. Children between the ages of 7 to 14 took part in a wide range of activities that included painting, sculpting, writing and educational field trips.
Zakat Foundation of AmericaCCC strives to promote constructive education and community engagement. Many of the art projects prompted self reflection and critical thinking. From drawing self portraits to writing poems the camp participants enjoyed an array of teachers and interactive discussions. Along with that the campers attended Bronzeville Children's Museum where they were taught the importance of exercise and healthy eating.
Many children in impoverished communities lack proper food once the school years ends. Zakat Foundation of AmericaCCC Director, Laila Mohammad, spearheaded this effort and ensured that the kids were properly fed during the humid summer months. Zakat Foundation of AmericaCCC took part in a state funded program called NSLP (National School Lunch Program) that offered healthy food options for all camp participants.
The Creative Arts Summer Camp is part of a multi-faceted effort to tend to the total well-being of the communities served by the Zakat Foundation Community Center of Chicago.
