Roaa is a determined young woman.

Raised in Jordan in a family facing financial difficulties, she turned her passion for sewing into a thriving business – a means of both supporting her family and building a promising future.

Living with her retired father, mother, and two sisters, Roaa found solace and purpose in sewing, a hobby that quickly grew into something much more significant with the training you sponsored.

"Before Zakat Foundation of America, my sewing skills were very limited,” said Roaa “But everything changed when I enrolled in their sewing course. It opened my eyes to a world of possibilities.”

“I learned not only how to sew, but also how to take accurate measurements, create patterns, and assemble various garments. I was able to work on projects like abayas, dresses, jackets, skirts, and even prayer garments.”

“Over time, my proficiency grew, and I became more confident in my abilities."

Roaa's journey with Zakat Foundation of America began when her sister introduced her to the course. It was transformative – not just in terms of skill development, but also in mental and emotional wellbeing.

“It brought so much joy to my life,” she said. “I felt empowered, more confident, and it gave me a sense of purpose,” she said.

When Rooa completed the course, her father opened a tailor shop for her and her sister. With her newfound skills, Roaa helped establish and build the business.

"I was able to produce high-quality items at the shop, and I also began taking orders at home to help with household expenses," she said.

Roaa’s enterprising spirit didn’t stop there. She sought support from Jordan’s Ministry of Social Development to acquire more sewing machines and expand the business. Her ambition, and dedication to improving her family's financial ability, have made Roaa an integral part of the tailor shop’s operations but have also sewn in her a greater life design.

“My dream is to become a fashion designer, and I’m working hard every day to make that dream come true,” she says with a knowing smile.

With Zakat Foundation of America’s ongoing support, Roaa’s next goal is to enroll in its Fashion Drawing course to make that passion a reality.

"I want to learn how to bring my creative ideas to life and turn them into real clothing designs," she said. This isn’t just a personal goal. It's a way to ensure a more secure future for herself and her family.

Zakat Foundation of America’s impact on Roaa’s life extends beyond practical skills.

“The course has given me more than just technical skills. It’s given me the confidence to pursue my dreams. Now I feel like I have the ability to create something beautiful from nothing.”

Today, Roaa’s father, mother, and sister all support her efforts, proud of the progress she’s made.

“She is so precise, so collaborative, and so determined,” says her father. “I’ve watched her grow, and I am so proud of what she has accomplished.”
