An estimated 1.2 million remain food insecure in Burundi. The nation’s internally displaced asylum seekers and refugees face the daily struggle of securing nourishing food. Food insecurity worsened in late 2023 due to extreme weather, rising inflation, fuel shortages, and limited access to seeds and fertilizers. Zakat Foundation of America provides food packages through its Seasons Islamic Giving Program ensuring families in need have nourishing meals in Ramadan, and nutritious meat during Udhiyah-Qurbani season.
