Response to Humanitarian Crisis
Despite having one of the largest economies in West Africa, poverty remains pervasive, and many people, especially in rural regions, lack access to basic amenities like clean water, healthcare, and education. Thousands of people have also been displaced by the nation's sporadic violence and turmoil. The nation's resources are under much more strain as a result of the refugee crisis from neighboring countries. Residents are susceptible to climate-related problems, including droughts and flooding, which jeopardize agricultural livelihoods and food security.
Zakat Foundation of America has set out to provide relief and support through food security with Seasonal Islamic Giving in Ramadan and Dhul Hijjah. Food packages in Ramadan, and Udhiyah-Qurbani meat support health with nutritious staples. Furthermore, to bring communities together and provide spiritual support, mosque construction ensures upliftment and education for families seeking togetherness.
