Response to Humanitarian Crisis

1.9 million Kenyans lack access to food and resources due to drought and climate change-driven flooding. After nearly 40 years of drought, the 2023 El Niño floods worsened the crisis, displacing many, destroying livelihoods, and demolishing infrastructure.

Zakat Foundation of America donors play a crucial role in supporting orphaned and separated girls, young women, and children across East and Central Africa, particularly through the RefuSHE project in Nairobi and our expanding Orphan Care Program. We also focus on infrastructure development by building mosques in rural communities, strengthening local bonds and boosting literacy, especially among children, through education programs. Kenya’s refugees and displaced populations benefit from our Livestock Animal Husbandry project, helping families build sustainable livelihoods. Additionally, communal water wells in remote villages prove vital for resettling refugees and empowering communities to rebuild.
