Response to Humanitarian Crisis

Tanzania is home to over 200,000 refugees and asylum seekers, primarily from Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Mozambique. These refugees are spread across camps in the Kigoma region, which faces significant challenges, including widespread poverty and gender-based violence, such as early marriage and pregnancy.

The Zakat Foundation of America is supporting the people of Tanzania through seasonal Islamic giving initiatives, providing nourishing meals, food staples, and high-quality meat during Ramadan and Udhiyah-Qurbani. Additionally, our water projects ensure families have access to clean drinking water, improving their quality of life and freeing up time and energy to focus on financial independence, education, and other life-enhancing opportunities.
