A Sacrifice of Faith

Zakat Foundation is committed to offering you the ability to do your Udhiyah in 46 countries. With a global team spanning all five continents, you can trust us to help you fulfill this spiritual sacrifice.

What Is Udhiyah/Qurbani?

The word Udhiyah in Arabic (also known as Udhiya or Qurbani in other languages) means sacrifice. This sacrifice in particular refers to an animal sacrifice done as an act of worship for the pleasure of God. The tradition of Udhiyah (also known as Udhiya or Qurbani) is rooted in the story of the Prophet Abraham and his son Ishmael. This sacrifice was also a part of the example set by the Prophet Muhammad, on him be peace to commemorate the tradition of Abraham.

“So pray to your Lord and make your sacrifice to Him alone”

It is a tradition all Muslims carry out to this day. The meat of Udhiyah is meant to be divided into three parts:

  • For the poor and needy

  • For neighbors and family

  • For your own family

When you give this fresh meat to someone in need, you are not only earning God’s pleasure; you are bringing happiness to someone at the same time!
