Zakat Foundation of America is proud to announce that they have been awarded the prestigious "Excellence Award for Zakat Collection and Distribution" at the 14th Annual Global Islamic Finance Awards (GIFA) in the Maldives on September 18, 2024. This honor recognizes the organization’s outstanding contributions to advancing the practice of zakat as a transformative force in humanitarian relief.
Speaking on the award, Mr. Demir shared, “Zakat Foundation of America is deeply honored to be recognized for our leadership in humanitarian aid, while helping our supporters fulfill the sacred obligation of zakat. Through this work, we aim to uplift those in need with dignity, providing them hope for a brighter, more sustainable future.”
Zakat Foundation of America has consistently aligned its initiatives with the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing recovery, empowerment, and development in communities worldwide. The organization's impactful approach was evident at the summit during Mr. Demir’s panel discussion on “Green Sukuk and Social Finance: Financing a Sustainable Future,” which drove the global conversation on transparency, efficiency, and customer satisfaction in charitable work.
Organized by Cambridge IFA and Maldives Islamic Bank, the event brought together 200 global leaders, including government officials, industry experts, and executives, to discuss Islamic finance's role in addressing global financial inclusion and fostering sustainable investment. This year’s theme, "Islamic Finance in a Digital Landscape – Innovation and Sustainability," focused on leveraging technology to develop inclusive and responsible financial systems.
Zakat Foundation of America stands as the first non-governmental organization (NGO) to receive this prestigious award, reaffirming its leadership in humanitarian efforts and its unwavering commitment to empowering communities through zakat distribution.
