Zakat Foundation of America Delivers Food Security and Winter Relief

Nearly 14 years after the devastating crisis in Syria, which sparked over a decade of civil unrest and the worst refugee crisis in history, displaced Syrians are beginning to return home to rebuild their lives and reunite with loved ones.
Since 2011, Zakat Foundation of America has been steadfast in providing humanitarian aid to those inside and outside of Syria, offering vital support during these difficult times.
With food shortages gripping Syria’s largest cities, Damascus and Aleppo, an estimated 3.1 million people are facing severe hunger, and malnutrition is quickly reaching emergency levels.
In response, our teams have distributed 10,000 loaves of bread in the Aleppo area and food packages to 100 families, each enough to feed a family of five for 10 days. We’re also delivering flour and clean water to families in urgent need. Contaminated water sources pose an added threat of waterborne diseases such as cholera and diarrhea which can prove deadly for those facing malnutrition. With freezing temperatures worsening the crisis, we are distributing warm blankets to help protect vulnerable families from the cold.
Syria’s interim government has emphasized the need for trusted humanitarian aid organizations to remain active. As Syrians return to their homes and work to rebuild their lives, they need your support to access the resources and assistance necessary to overcome the overwhelming challenges they face.
Over the years, Zakat Foundation of America has contributed over $13 million USD through its Emergency Relief Program to support Syrians in distress. In addition, investments in Refugee Empowerment, Education and Health & Wellbeing services continue to assist those affected. Our Orphan Care Program offers full sponsorship to enrolled orphans, ensuring their basic needs are met.
