The Resilience of Maryam
Islam honors Maryam, the mother of Prophet Jesus (peace be upon them both), as a woman of resilience in the face of great trial and adversity. In that spirit, let’s support the Mariams of the world.
A Story of Hope
Mali
At 5 years old, Mariam’s life was forever changed when she lost her parents and was left in the care of her elderly grandfather, who was unable to care for her. Moved by her situation, neighbors brought her to our orphanage, where she found safety, love, and care. Thanks to our Orphan Care program, she is thriving—attending school, making friends, and dreaming of a brighter future. Mariam’s story is a testament to the power of community support, resilience, and the hope for a better tomorrow.
A Passion for Creativity
Mali
Mariam Keita’s journey is one of resilience and determination. After losing her father at age four, she and her mother faced countless challenges. Despite financial struggles, her mother worked tirelessly to support her and her younger brother. In 2016, Mariam joined the Zakat Foundation of America’s Orphan Care Program, which provided vital support. Though forced to drop out of school in grade 8 due to financial difficulties, Mariam pursued her passion for henna, which is now her path to independence. She is currently in her second year of training at the 'Kadidia' center, dreaming of becoming a recognized henna artist.
