Why Should We Donate To Palestine in Ramadan?
“O you who have believed! Stand firm for justice as witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives…” (Quran 4:135).
“O you who have believed! Stand firm for justice as witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives…” (Quran 4:135).
It is critical for us to donate to Palestine during Ramadan. Why? Ramadan is a time when we get to reflect on what it means to truly care for our Muslim brothers and sisters, especially those who are deprived of basic needs under unjust occupation.
Since 1948, the people of Palestine have faced daily harassment from government soldiers, limited personal mobility, restrictions on food and economic resources and more.
With such restrictive living conditions imposed upon them by the current regime, Palestinians lack basics like nutritional and economic resources and we as Muslims should do what we can to help - especially during this holy month.
The struggle of the people of Palestine has lasted over 70 years, with no end in sight.
For over 2 million Palestinians living in Gaza and the surrounding occupied territories, racial profiling, restrictive government policies and an overall lack of basic essentials are a daily reality. As this violent occupation of Palestinian land continues, so do their needs and it becomes crucial for us as humanitarians to provide for them.
When we donate to Palestine, we fill gaps in need which have existed for nearly a century and give the people of Palestine what they need to survive and build towards a more stable future.
To donate to Palestine is to address multiple areas of need. Currently, Palestinians face the following categories of crisis in their daily lives:
Educational Crisis: Over 500,000 learners are in need of education assistance and safe learning facilities, as well as 10,000 disabled learners.
Safe Water Crisis: 97% of Gaza’s water is unfit for human drinking and over 1.3 million people in Gaza do not have access to safe drinking water or sanitation facilities.
Hunger Crisis: 47% of the households in Gaza suffer moderate to severe food insecurity, meaning they have poor nutrition, unreliable sources of food or often miss meals.
Housing Crisis: Over 56,000 homes in Gaza have been damaged by air and ground strikes and 80% of Gaza’s energy needs, such as electricity and gas, are regularly unmet.
Economic Crisis: 49% of Gaza’s population is unemployed and over 1.1 million people in Gaza (56%) live on $1.90 USD per day or less.
Health Crisis: An estimated 675,000 children in Gaza are in need of mental health and psychosocial support, or MHPSS.
With such widespread difficulty affecting millions of Palestinians on a daily basis, they need our help more than ever.
This Ramadan, we’re working to address the hunger crisis in Gaza by bringing nourishing meals to sick children at Al-Rantisi Pediatric Specialized Hospital, the only pediatric cancer department in Gaza.
With skyrocketing poverty and unemployment, the families of these cancer patients need our help and support and your generous gift ensures these innocent children have a fighting chance.
